2012 Grammy Award’s Fashion Red Carpet Recap

Featured

Well we certainly weren’t disappointed with last night’s 54th annual Grammy Awards! From bold color (Fergie!) to stunning jewelry…and lets not forget the fabulous performances and tributes to the late Whitney Houston, it was certainly a night to camp out in front of the tele. Here are our fave moments from the evening:

We were excited to see Gwyneth in signature style- showing off her incredibly toned Tracy Anderson body in a sleek number by BFF Stella McCartneyGwyneth Paltrow dress Grammys as she introduced Adele’s return to music (after a brief hiatus to repair her vocal chords).

We LOVED the necklace Linda Ramone rocked and are still trying to hunt down the skinny on it…Linda Ramone Necklace Grammys Her hair color isn’t bad either- looks like she and Fergie took note as to Pantone’s 2012 color for the year…”Tangerine Tango”.

Which leads us to another big moment of the night. Mrs. Duhmel had us counting down the minutes till Spring Break with her Beach Goddess flawless makeup and Mermaid-esque Tangerine Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture dress. Gold Neil Lane hoop earrings and a bold statement cuff were the perfect way to complement this look without detracting from her intricately laser-cut dress.

Another big moment for us was the Asscher cut earrings on Katy Perry – not to mention her blue hair! These days it seems Day Glo is the way to go to stand out… platinum and jet-black are a thing of the past.

Her performance was IN-Sane as she rocked the stage in full force with a new song that clearly was a stab at her recent Ex Russell Brand. I think the line “So you can keep the diamond ring/ It don’t mean nothing anyway” summed it all up!

We had to give our fave Overall Jaw-Dropping look to Miss Rhianna. She stole the Red Carpet in her self-designed plunging black dress that was inspired by this dress worn by Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface years ago. Paired with her effortless newly-Blonde curls and fabulous jewels from snake rings to arm cuffs to body chains…we were captivated!

And for one last nod…we have to give it to Miss Hilton. She definitely wins the category for Most Improved in this gown by Basil Soda as she was there to announce HER new album dropping soon (!): Paris Hilton Basil Soda Dress Grammys

Sundance Celebrity Fashion 2012

Featured

Pssst…Did you know the best way to kick those January winter blues is to head to Park City, Utah for the annual Sundance Film Festival?!

Sundance, founded by actor Robert Redford in 1981with merely a handful of colleagues, has transformed over the years into the ultimate “See & Be Seen” Winter destination for indie film newcomers and industry giants, actors, celebrities, and socialites alike. The charming and typically low-key ski town is overtaken by the industry this time each year for a week of screenings, skiing, parties… and Style Lounges filled with free swag including the latest jewelry and fashion labels. Here at Laura James Jewelry we live for the eclectic trends spotted at the festival which run the gamut from Street-Savvy to Chalet Chic.

This year the Jewelry Trends for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival ranged from chic stud earrings, layered gold charm necklaces, and stacked bangles to  tribal inspired statement necklaces like this bold design on actress Kristen Bell:

Fashion standouts included trend-setter Kirsten Dunst, a red-lipped Kate Bosworth, and the ever-androgynous Rashida Jones. Though fur-lined boots, vests, jackets and gloves were de rigueur on the slopes and streets, the favored shade when the sun went down was…black, of course.

You too can rock the jewelry trends spotted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival …from with Stud Earrings, Gold Charm Necklaces, Stacked Bangles + Bracelets, to Tribal Inspired Statement Necklaces – all available at Laura James Jewelry!

Covetable Cannes: All Fashion, Jewelry and Glamour at Cannes Film Festival

We were blown away by some of the fabulous jewelry and dresses at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival this year. From Statement Earrings to stunning Gowns…and Pantsuits (!), the Indie film festival did not disappoint! One of the most important trends this decade has been the aversion to “serious” jewelry. Costume jewels have replaced the real thing on many runways, magazines and events and the look is both fresh and current. Costume or whimsical semi-precious jewelry can elevate that “dated diamonds” look to the stratosphere. Our hands-down favorite example was the Bicycle Necklace worn by French actress Frédérique Bel- this was a perfect way for the Indie actress to make a statement that great jewelry is jewelry that is fun, exciting and best of all…refreshing.

We were absolutely enamored with the Statement Earrings from the Festival…and Uma Thurman was our favorite ambassador. Literally dripping in Chopard Emeralds (what Red Carpet would now be complete with out Emeralds? Thank-you Miss Jolie!), Thurman would later don another pair of similar Chopard Earrings with Diamonds…but those Emeralds were hands-down our fave!

These Fred Leighton diamonds worn by Sarah Jessica Parker were incredible…and soooo SJP!

And now for the DRESSES! Rachel McAdams literally walked away with this category in her Red Silk Organza Marchesa confection from their Fall 2011 collection (and we love the nod to the current RED trend):

Our next fave was the Calvin Klein liquid gold number on the ever-ethereal Diane Kruger:

We also loved the daring black plunging Stella McCartney pantsuit that only Gwen Stefani could pull off:

So, that’s a wrap for this year’s Cannes Film Festival! Here are a few of our own Red Carpet Statement Earring suggestions from Laura James Jewelry to tide you over this Summer…all available here: http://www.laurajamesjewelry.com/collections/earrings.

Jewelry We Loved at the Globes

With the plethora of fresh color on the Red Carpet at the Golden Globes last Sunday, we were excited to see that several stars knew  how to emphasize their gowns with just the right jewels. Here are a few of our faves from the show:

First and foremost, this 1960’s Fred Leighton diamond crusted Cartier cuff was my fave of the night- the perfect edgy compliment to Claire Danes’ simple Calvin Klein Collection dress:

Next on my list were the web-like Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings that Elizabeth Moss wore:

I loved the color combo that Kyra put together here- quintessential Spring look:

And who couldn’t adore this 35 carat Paraiba tourmaline ring from Lorraine Schwartz that Lea Michele rocked- my favorite of all Statement Jewelry:

And that’s our 2011 Red Carpet Jewelry Roundup for the Golden Globes- we are THRILLED to have both the SAG and OSCAR award shows just on the horizon…so stay tuned for our jewelry recap of these shows soon to come and shop our website and store for similar Red Carpet jewelry designs!
